Ri Scott graduated from the College of William & Mary with degrees in political science and drama in 2008 and moved to California to attend the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He obtained his J.D. from that institution in 2011 and was admitted to the California State Bar. He has a background in technology consulting, specifically in software engineering practices. He is currently employed as a technology consulting leader at Slalom, serving Bay Area companies and public sector agencies in their mission to innovate and develop cutting edge technology products.
While in law school, Ri externed for Judge Lillian Sing of the Superior Court of San Francisco during her tenure on the San Francisco Unified Family Court. During his time at the Unified Family Court, Ri developed a strong interest in policy matters affecting families and children. Upon relocating permanently to Contra Costa County in 2017, Ri began looking for volunteer opportunities to work in public policy spaces that intersect with youth. He was sworn into the Juvenile Justice Commission by the Honorable Barbara Hinton of the Contra Costa Superior Court in September of 2019. He was elected Chair by the Commission in April of 2020, and began his tenure as chair on July 1, 2020.
Ri currently resides in San Pablo with his husband, Dr. Eric Samuels, Psy.D., their two dogs, Ethel and Bert, and their two cats, Ailell and Ysanne. Ri is an avid astrophotographer and gardener.
